Tesla has chosen a lead designer from Asia, ideas for the Model 2 and new EV range

It appears that Tesla is moving closer to its anticipated "Model 2" electric hatchback, which was first announced by CEO and co-founder Elon Musk at Tesla's Battery Day in 2020, as well as perhaps an entirely new selection of EV ideas.

The EV producer has a brand new Chinese website appealing to individuals to apply for what would undoubtedly be considered a highly sought-after position: Design director for your forthcoming Tesla China Design Centre.

Tesla produces four vehicles in its factory: Model Y (which is not yet available in Australia), Model 3, Model S, and Model X. Tesla is working on many things, including a Cybertruck, which would be manufactured at its planned EV and battery plant in Texas, and an electric utility vehicle. However, one Tesla vehicle that is not being manufactured currently is its first pick-up truck. The tech giant has been working on the new compact utility vehicle for several years now.

While this news is significant enough on its own, some enthusiasts are excited at the prospect of a new Tesla Model coming out in 2020 - 2012. If the Model 3 took years to go from announcement to production and is now one of their most popular vehicles, imagine what might happen if they release a brand new type of vehicle that offers even more advanced tech than their current.

According to Tesla's China CEO Tom Zhu, It's likely that Tesla will release another EV in late 2021 – a tiny electric hatch dubbed the "Model 2". The prospective Model 2 would be its cheapest EV yet. The Tesla Model 2 will likely cost about $10,000 less than the basic Tesla Model 3. As the name suggests, the Model 2 would serve as a smaller, more affordable version of the already-affordable Model 3. The Tesla Model 2 would cost $25,000 (approximately $A32,700 converted).

This is important news for those who want to find themselves in an even better financial position to purchase this new vehicle. A $10,000 saving is not something to ignore. However, it's important that we remember that this is an unconfirmed report. Tesla has not confirmed the Model 2 vehicle in the past.

The Model 3 went into limited production in 2017 by Tesla, but it's first to be mass-marketed. It was designed to start at $35,000 and get 262 miles of range on a single charge. The Model S and X were luxury vehicles that did not aim for affordability and thus had much greater price tags. The Model 3 has been prevalent, and demand continues to be high.

There will most likely be a lot of competition for Tesla when it comes to EVs, especially if they choose to release another one that's even cheaper than the already-affordable Model 3. The $25,000 electric hatch is predicted to compete with Volkswagen and their ID line.

Before expanding to other markets, the company might begin with Asia as a test market, where small city-style automobiles are hot sellers. In February, for example, Wuling Mini, the tiny and inexpensive EV, outsold Tesla in China.

Maybe we're taking things too far here, but it would be absurd to believe that Tesla's latest electric vehicle is the only one they've got planned. Given the Design Leader page on Tesla's website, which displays a Cybertruck, perhaps Tesla has plans for more than just city cars in China.

If they're willing to take the risk of releasing a lot more EVs in China, with its huge population of almost 1.4 billion people, it won't be long before Tesla is everywhere around the world.
